A Series of Postcards from Embankment at Night, before the War

Text by D. H. Lawrence
D. H. Lawrence's poem, 'Outcasts' from Embankment at Night, before the War, eschews narrative in favour of crafting a multidimensional snapshot of London as seen from multiple angles. To me the stanzas of this poem read like fragments scribbled on the back of a postcard, capturing the moment with a remarkable economy of language. This setting draws on this fragmentary nature, as the players use these imagined postcards to create an atemporal image. Time appears frozen as layers upon layers are moulded into the a recreation of the Embankment Lawrence knew.
